The Ananda Institute's Medical Psychology program is unique in our area based on its collaborative approach of delivering psychological services. Our interventions are specifically designed to address the bio-psychosocial aspects of chronic health conditions. Our psychologists take a lead role in creating a treatment team with physicians, physical therapists, psychiatrists and other professionals who might be involved in the delivery of care. This ensures continuity of care and a treatment plan that encompasses all aspects of recovery.
The Medical Psychology program includes the Cardiac Recovery program, the Chronic Pain program, the Cancer Recovery program, the Headache Treatment program, and interventions geared to the treatment of a variety of chronic health conditions such as fibromyalgia, Crohn's disease, and irritable bowel syndrome.
The Cardiac Psychology emphasis works towards reducing mortality and improving recovery after a cardiac event by addressing depression and anxiety, as well as cultural and psychosocial issues such as health beliefs and access to rehabilitation.
The Chronic Pain program benefits those for whom medical interventions no longer provide relief, and a vital, functioning way of life is compromised. At Ananda, we understand how ongoing pain can derail the best intentions, and we work closely with patients to design a treatment plan that explores various ways of bringing back control – and hope. Our mission is to identify effective coping mechanisms that lead to a richer, and more fulfilling existence.
The Headache treatment program offers specifically tailored interventions for migraine headaches, cluster headaches, tension headaches, and neck and scalp pain.
